High-Quality Podcast Database by Listen Notes: Authentic, Human-Crafted Podcasts, Not AI-Generated Junk

At Listen Notes, Inc., we pride ourselves on offering the most comprehensive and highest-quality podcast database available online. We maintain exceptional data quality by focusing on two key areas: ensuring up-to-date content and minimizing low-quality or spammy podcasts.

How We Keep Our Podcast Database Up-to-Date

We use four primary methods to continually find and update podcasts:

  1. Automated Crawlers: Our crawlers run 24/7, continuously searching the web for publicly accessible podcasts, much like search engines such as Google do for websites.
  2. Direct Submissions: Podcasters submit hundreds of new shows to Listen Notes daily through our platform.
  3. Manual Additions: Our employees regularly add podcasts that may be missing from the database. Additionally, over 2 million monthly users of our popular website, ListenNotes.com, can submit missing shows for review. Each submission is manually checked to ensure it meets our quality standards and isn't a fake or machine-generated podcast.
  4. Partnerships with Podcast Hosting Services: We collaborate with major podcast hosting platforms, enabling podcasters to submit new shows directly through our API integration.

We check the RSS feeds of all podcasts around the clock. For recently played podcasts, new episodes are typically added to our database within 15 to 30 minutes, and for others, within a few hours.

Podcasts frequently evolve. A single podcast may have an updated RSS feed, revised metadata, or even be deleted by the producer or due to DMCA takedowns. You can check how outdated podcasts can be by looking at our free dataset of podcasts from December 2017 here.

How We Fight Spam and Low-Quality Content

The internet is full of spam, and even the biggest tech companies (e.g., Google) struggle with this challenge. With the rise of AI technology, it’s easier than ever to generate fake content.

At Listen Notes, we combat this with both AI-powered solutions and human moderation. For instance, we've developed an open-source tool to detect machine-generated audio content, including fake podcasts created by systems like NotebookLM. Our human moderators also carefully review every new podcast submission to ensure it’s genuine and not spam.

You can explore a free dataset containing a subset of AI-generated fake podcasts that we’ve deleted from our database here.

Our commitment is to help our users find authentic, human-created podcasts—not AI-generated junk.

The Ongoing Challenge

Keeping spam out of the database is a constant battle, especially as AI-generated content grows more sophisticated. At Listen Notes, we continue to innovate and improve our detection technology to stay ahead in this ever-evolving landscape.

We’re dedicated to maintaining a podcast database that delivers genuine, high-quality content to our users.
